At 16:18 Mom got up to stretch and gave us the first glimpse of the new hatchling! Not obvious but that’s the chick spreading it’s wings and taking a stepΒ in the very closeup shot!
She is such a good Mum. I just saw the Baby once and have not seen the Mr. I am looking forward to watching the Owlets grow up and fledge.
8:10 She *does* find crows interesting, eh?
At 7:18:56 you get a quick peek at the remaining egg.
Is the white spot on the owlet’s upper beak that “egg tooth” of which you spoke?
The camera close up brings to mind “like water off an owl’s back”. . .
Ha Ha….
Fortunately there are very few nesting birds now with young…so at this point there won’t be too many orphaned young
So, who’s taking care of the Clapper Rail’s eggs? π
Nesting for clapper rails ( marsh hen)takes place between March and July
At this time there will be no eggs
Been here 33 years hearing about marsh hens, didn’t know they were called Clapper Rails, finally get to see one, and it’s only half of one. π
Oops. Make that three hours. π
14:35 Another feeding. 2 hour feeding schedule? π
Looks like there was a “feeding” at around 11:28 this morning.
oweeeee We were out of town at a funeral…when baby hatched!
A life given to the Lord and the Lord provided “new life!”
It was actually 6:19 that I saw the mama leave the nest and saw the baby.. I posted it to my twitter…..
I saw the hatchling prior to the time listed, I tried to send a tweet to you, it was maybe 7mins. earlier than you think…AMAZING!!!!!!
Thanks Mercedes – we’ll go back and review the videos. We will eventually put together a timeline of significant events.
Second look at chick at 6:46! Fluffy!
A bunch of hooting starting at 6:58 has me wondering if she’s about to give us another look at the fluff ball.
Some unique hooting at 6:38 that was followed by some “regular” hooting.
Having leftovers from about 3:05 til 3:18, and maybe even feeding some to the fluffy one.
Awwwww…..so very happy to see the first little fluffy chick! :o)
My friends the Horan’s sent me the web site it’s about 9 β’ here in NJ great fun watching the owls – I appreciate the commentary – while I knew they could swivel their heads almost completely around – I did not know the eyes are set – thank you
Incredibly small and fragile! When will the adults begin feeding the chck?
We have 4 baby parakeets, hatched over the last 2 weeks, so baby owl is the frosting on our cake!
I have informed as many parents of my students as I can through FB and text. I can’t wait to see my students in the morning. We are so excited!
Congrats…..
We have a BABY!!! And it hatched on the date I chose.
Yay!!! So fluffy already! It’s going to be so fun to watch them grow up and fledge!
